Web Support Specialist

Summary:

Uses knowledge of web coding standards, user interface design, information architecture, usability and accessibility to develop and support web environments and perform project task assignments.

Working alone, on project teams or with the assistance of web developers, DBAs, system administrators, business analysts and/or other system analysts. Designs, codes, documents, tests, and debugs web environments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Applies advanced knowledge of multiple programming and scripting languages utilized in web environments (PHP, PERL, SQL, Ruby, JavaScript and/or any combination of these languages); applies document object model (DOM) and creates semantic markup; creates valid HTML, XHTML, CSS, XML and XSLT schemas; determines the benefits of various programming languages and develops code for web environments according to functional and technical requirements.

Applies significant knowledge of web environment architectures; employs best practices for development and implementation of secure web environments; implements and manages web analytics solutions to monitor and gauge usage of web environments; understands the benefits of the various design methodologies.

Understands and applies complex database concepts as well as the implications of different database designs; effectively employs different database design techniques; possesses demonstrated work experience with more than one relational database environment (e.g., Oracle and MySQL).

Understands and applies browser specific compatibility issues and web accessibility requirements; facilitates usability testing; ensures implementation of user interface design best practices.

Conducts studies pertaining to development of new web environments to meet current and projected needs. Plans and prepares technical reports, memoranda, and instructional manuals as documentation of program development.

Analyzes system software upgrades and implements changes as necessary to achieve optimal system performance after the upgrade. Maintains a timely awareness of third party software changes and is responsible for seeing that third party updates are implemented correctly and that these updates are explained to those affected. Makes recommendations on the readiness of software for migration to the production environment.

Assists web developers in resolution of work problems related to flow charts, project specifications, or coding and coordinates work of others to develop, test, implement, and modify web environments. Works internally with DBAs, business analysts, system administrators and other system analysts in defining long-term requirements.
